Great Smoky Mountains National Park Scenery

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is easily one of my favorite travel destinations.

It’s only about a six hour drive from home and has some of the best hiking and best scenery I’ve experienced in a landlocked National Park.

There’s something green everywhere you look, lots of streams and waterfalls, colorful flowers and a lot of wildlife to see throughout the park (bears included!).

Some beautiful scenery and photo opportunities can easily be found driving along Newfound Gap Road (U.S. Route 441) through the park.

Just about anywhere you go along U.S. Route 441 you can see stunning mountain views, especially at dusk when the sunsets are breathtaking and inspiring.

Amazingly the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is within one days drive for the majority of the population of the Continental United States.  Plus admission to the park is 100% FREE! Definitely one reason why we like it so much. 🙂

If you travel to the Smokies, be sure to give yourself enough time to experience it.

There are over 380 miles of road for auto touring and a whopping 150 hiking trails within the park!

If you’re hiking, make sure you’ve got a good backpack to carry your gear!

I’ve got lots more photos from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and surrounding areas and I’ll continue to share some of them this upcoming week.

If you like my photos of the Smoky Mountains and would like to hang them on your wall, have a look at my Great Smoky Mountains Wall Calendar on Cafe Press.  It’s a 12 month calendar printed on durable card stock and has big colorful images that you can put into individual frames after the year is done!

Readers, if you have visited the Gatlinburg, TN or Cherokee, NC area and went into the park, what are some of your favorite things about it?

Plus, if you have your own photos of the Smoky Mountains, feel free to link to your blog or photos and share them in the comments.

Thanks for stopping by and look out for more photos from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park soon!
