Humboldt Penguin at the Columbus Zoo

What animal is always dressed to the nines and ready to impress?  Why, the penguin, of course!  And this Humboldt Penguin at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium looks like its ready for anything!

Unlike some of its cold weather cousins who live as far south as Antarctica, Humboldt Penguins are found in warmer climates off the coast of Chile and Peru.

At the Columbus Zoo, they live in the Shores region just past the flamingos and the Reptile Building and right before Discovery Reef and Manatee Coast.

Here’s something cool!

The Columbus Zoo partners with Nationwide Insurance and has a live video camera streaming HD video of the Humboldt Penguin habitat!  You can even control the camera’s viewing angle if the penguins are moving around!

Now, even though penguins are a flightless bird, they are very adept swimmers and seem to “fly” under water, easily reaching speeds of around 25 miles per hour!
