More Gorillas at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium
Last week’s Photos of the Week post was on the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and had one photo that I really like of a gorilla looking toward the camera.
Today I have a photo from that same zoo trip that I think I like even more. 🙂
Since I don’t often go through my entire photo library to look for photos to share, I tend to forget what I have.
So, when I found this shot of a gorilla laying on some grasses in its enclosure, I knew I wanted to share it with my readers as a Photo of the Day.
The posture and expression of the gorilla is priceless!
You can just imagine it thinking about all of us humans staring in from behind the glass. Like its pondering some grand scheme or plot to scare someone or do something to make us laugh…or maybe plotting to rise up and take over the zoo, a la Planet of the Apes! 🙂
Or maybe not.
Anyway, the gorillas are one of the most interesting and entertaining animals to watch at the zoo and the Columbus Zoo is well known for its gorilla breeding programs and for its notable gorillas.
Introduce your little ones to gorillas with this excellent book by children’s science writer, Seymour Simon:
Gorillas by Seymour Simon. A Smithsonian Book. $6.29
If you get the chance to travel to Columbus, Ohio, make a point to visit the Columbus Zoo and check out the gorillas and the rest of the primates in the Expedition Congo region of the zoo. You won’t be disappointed.
P.S. – If you’re reading this when it first gets published (July 22, 2013), The Pittsburgh Mommy Blog is giving away 4 tickets to Zoombezi Bay, the Columbus Zoo’s water park, which is located on the same property as the zoo. A trip to the zoo one day and a relaxing time at Zoombezi Bay the next day would make for a great weekend getaway! Enter here at The Pittsburgh Mommy Blog’s Facebook Page and good luck!
